Thursday, March 14

Pie for Pi Day
Tell us what you know about the mathematical constant "pi" and receive a free slice of pie. While supplies last. Free. Noon–5 p.m. Eastport-Annapolis Neck branch, Annapolis.

Preschool Nature Series
Slither, swim, fly, or crawl your way to Jug Bay for nature programs specially designed for preschool-aged children. During this parent/child program, families will see, smell, hear, and touch our way around the sanctuary and learn about nature through an interactive story, craft and hike. Extend your visit with free play at their Nature Play Space! Ages: 3-5. Fee: $6 per child. Register online at and enter Activity #15949.

Friday, March 15

Scope out the Night Sky
Enjoy a planetarium program, build your very own Galileoscope (a functional telescope for night sky viewing), hold a meteorite, observe the surface of the moon and other space objects on a “Magic Planet,” and view celestial objects in the sky using various telescopes. $30 per family. 6:30–9:30 p.m. Robinson Nature Center, Columbia.

Friday Night Stargazing
See the stars at the Maryland Science Center through the museum’s historic and computer controlled refracting telescope. 7–10:30 p.m. Maryland Science Center, Baltimore.

Willy Wonka Jr.
Fun for all ages. Four shows are offered—Three at Jones Elementary and a special Sunday performance March 17th @2pm at Stage & Screen Studios, Millersville.  $7.50 for adults; $5.00 for children under 10. Purchases can be made by contacting Jones Elementary Drama Club, or at the door (subject to availability).

Saturday, March 16

Pirates PrincessesColumbia Orchestra: Pirates and Princesses
Dancers from Dance Connections and narrator Greg Jukes join the Orchestra for Pirates & Princesses, with music from Pirates of the Caribbean, Scheherazade, and more! Plus, try your favorite instruments at the Musical Instrument Petting Zoo from 11:30-1:00. Performances at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Free for kids 11 and under; $15 for 12 and up. It’s time to escape hibernation and head to the Maryland Zoo for special activities and treats for you and the animals, as well as learning about the animals that live on farms. See sheep shearing, a puppet show, goat training and pig bowling. Free with admission. 10 a.m.–4 p.m. The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore.

Ocean City St. Patrick's Day Parade
Marching units, floats and local festivities. Festival at 11, Parade at noon. 60th–44th St., Coastal Highway, Ocean City.

Puppet Theatre
Nature-themed puppet theater presentation and craft to follow. $5. 10 and 11 a.m. Robinson Nature Center, Columbia.

St. Patrick's Day Scavenger Hunt
Find the leprechauns hidden in the library and receive a prize. Free. 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Eastport-Annapolis Neck.

Sunday, March 17

Fairy & Gnome Tea Party
Kids can learn about the plants and animals in the woodland fairies’ kingdom, plus kids will don a pair of fairy wings or a gnome hat and embark on a search for fairies and gnomes through the nature center. Afterwards, sit and savor a full tea service by Sweet Simplici-Tea tea room, which includes tea, lemonade and treats just right for little fingers. $27. Preregistration required. 11 a.m.–1 p.m. and 2–4 p.m. Robinson Nature Center, Columbia.

Backyard Birding
Bring your binoculars and join a naturalist for a beginner’s bird walk around Irvine. Learn how to identify native MD birds by both color and sound. Fun for all ages. $5. 9–10:30 a.m. Irvine Nature Center, Owings Mills.

Celebrating the Irish Workers of the B&O Railroad
Irish immigrants helped build the B&O Railroad. Celebrate the Irish and their contributions to the B&O Railroad on St. Patrick’s Day. 11 a.m.–4 p.m. B&O Railroad Museum, Baltimore.
