Dear 39 Year Old Self — One Moore Thing

This is important so I’m going to need you to lean in real close.

You’ve had a few challenging last couple of years. There is no denying that. But look at you here, now, still standing, heels tall, eyes wide open. And we don’t need to keep looking back in the rearview except to say, “Wow, look how far we’ve come.” And we will take all of that wisdom and strength and bottle it with all of the grit, gracious and beautiful and we will let it fuel us to blaze the way forward. We will head into this next chapter armed with flames.

Another thing, stop trying to make yourself small. You don’t need to downplay your accomplishments and quite frankly, I’m a little tired of it. All of those seemingly tiny victories add up to a life. It is okay to celebrate every small success. Look at you, word by word, inch by inch, you are becoming. There is nothing slight about that. So toast yourself every once in a while please. You deserve it.

Here are some things we are going to need to keep in mind this next year:

Give back whenever you can.
Hug those growing babies hard.
Keep not settling.
You have a choice of who you give your time, money and energy to.
You’ve earned the right to rise and laugh and surround yourself with those who lift you.
You were not born to be mediocre.
Show up and do the work.
Set goals. Now set bigger ones.
Slay your own dragons.
No one is here to save you but you.
Stop procrastinating.
Scroll less.
Eyes forward.
Soul open. Walls down.
Stop handing out excuses and apologies that aren’t deserved.
Take care of your body.
Simplify.
Listen to your gut.
Laugh as loud as you want to.
Take up space.
Strive for joy, not perfection.
Make more time for what and who you love.
See a bit more of this beautiful world.
Those gifts and strengths that you have that you don’t think are gifts because they come naturally to you are, in fact, gifts. Own them.

I’m proud of you kid. You didn’t wait for 40. You didn’t wait for the new year. You stopped waiting. You are doing it, living it, right now. Just keep going. We’ve got this.

Love you.
Always,
Me
