Holiday Fun, Day 34—Celebrate Kwanzaa with fun activities

Kwanzaa, the week-long celebration of African American heritage, this year from Dec 26-Jan. 1 honors the culture and traditions of people of African origin. Here are several fun events scheduled for this week.

Head to the Benjamin Banneker Historical Park & Museum in Catonsville on Dec. 29 to learn about Kwanzaa and celebrate the holiday honoring family, community and culture. The event runs from 1:30 to 4 p.m. and is free. While you are there, check out the historical park and museum which has something for everyone ranging from astronomy, cultural activities, hiking or nature and conservation. The 142-acre site is dedicated to telling the story of the life and times of Banneker, often considered the first African American man of science. For details visit the Benjamin Banneker Historical Park and Museum web page.

Also on Dec. 29, the Reginald F. Lewis Museum of African American History & Culture is holding a Kwanzaa Celebration as well with storytelling, fashion, dance, African crafts for sale and more. The event is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost is $5. For a full schedule of events visit The Reginald F. Lewis Museum website.
