Holiday Fun, Day 31—A Trip to the Calvert Marine Museum

Whether you're looking for an activities for visiting family members or your own kids over the holiday break from school, the Calvert Marine Museum in Solomons has activities all week to keep the fun going.

In addition to the following fun activities, the museum features great kid-friendly exhibits like a touch tank, giant fossils, otters, and a historic Chesapeake Bay screwpile lighthouse.

Here is the lineup of Calvert Marine Museum's Winter Break activities (note, the museum closes at 2 p.m. on Dec. 24, and will be closed Dec. 25):

Wednesday, December 26: Winter Wildlife
Discover the animals that make the wintry waters of the Chesapeake their home. Check the daily events schedule at the admissions desk for special program times. FREE with admission.

Thursday, December 27: Blizzards & Bones
Discover which animals adapted to Ice Age changes and which faced extinction while exploring our Treasures From the Cliffs exhibit. Excavate a fossil and make your own fossil mold at 11 a.m. and 1 and 3 p.m. Ages 4 and older. FREE with admission.

Friday, December 28: New Year's with the Lighthouse Keeper
Play period games and help decorate the lighthouse for the New Year with the lighthouse keeper. Check daily events schedule at the admissions desk. FREE with admission.

Monday, December 31: NOON Year's Eve Party (for members only!)
Harms Gallery, 10:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m. Make a party hat, New Year's wish ornament, and join the dance party with Bubbles the otter. Toast in the new year with sparkling ginger ale and fishy snacks when the ball drops at high noon. FREE for members of all ages!
